ISO-22000-2005 certified Dakshina Kannada Milk Union having jurisdiction of Mangalore and Udupi coastal Districts is one of the leading Milk Unions in the State of Karnataka. At the time of registration during the year 1986, the Union's procurement of Milk was 4,500 LPD. Now the Union is procuring 2,40,000 KPD through 641 Dairy Co-operative Societies. Once upon a time, Union was procuring 80% of its requirement of milk from neighbouring/other Milk Unions of Karnataka Milk Federation.
The Union has 641 functioning Dairy Co-op. Societies. Of which, 154 are Women Societies. The Union has established 86 Women Dairy Co-operatives in its jurisdiction under STEP Programme of Government of India.
The Union has two Dairies and one Chilling Centre. Mangalore Dairy has the production capacity of 3.5 LPD of Milk and other facilities for production of Ghee, Mysore Pak, Peda, Lassi, Kova, Flavoured Milk,Paneer,Bite etc. Manipal Dairy has 60,000 LPD handling Capacity. The Chilling Centre having capacity of 20,000 LPD is located at Puttur.
With respect to Marketing of Milk and Milk Products, the Union is currently marketing 2,90,000 LPD of milk and Products as noted below (Average / Day) through 1200 Dealers and 20 Milk Parlours.
